Trailer Tuesdays: The Social Network

Along with the launch of Magical Monday Moments, Please Welcome Your Judges is proud to announce another weekly gem: Trailer Tuesdays. Every week will feature a different movie trailer, whether it be a trailer from an old movie classic, a teaser of movie you've never heard of or a preview of the upcoming week's biggest hit.

The Social Network is not a movie I was interested seeing. At all. Even though I've been on Facebook almost as long as it's been around (joined in June 2004), I have never been remotely interested in the politics and constant scandal surrounding the founders of the social networking phenomenon. Plus, the whole thing felt a little "too soon" considering it's only been seven years since Mark Zuckerberg and crew started building the site. Sometimes you need a little distance to truly get an idea of what happened.

Then I saw the trailer before Inception this past weekend...

Love the images of confirming friends, changing relationship statuses, posting updates, etc. Of course, the best part of the trailer is the haunting choral cover of Radiohead's "Creep" by Belgium women's choir Scala & Kolacny Brothers. Further digging revealed the score for the movie was written by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, who wrote on his blog: "Speaking of the film... it's really f***ing good. And dark!" With a tagline like "You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies," the dark part is pretty clear. And I like it.

Sure, I still have my reservations about The Social Network (Justin Timberlake, for instance)... but you cannot deny that it's one hell of a trailer.
