Family Jules: The Old Wagon and All Mixed Up

Last night, ABC premiered the sophomore seasons of two of TV's best comedies: the Emmy award-winning Modern Family and the red wine obsessed Cougar Town. In celebration, I am launching a new weekly post called Family Jules that will recap the best and most hilarious moments from the previous night's episodes. Let's get started...

Modern Family
Season 2, Episode 1: "The Old Wagon"
The families all deal with growing pains: Phil and Claire remember the past as they sell their old station wagon and Gloria tries her best not to be a clingy Colombian mother while Jay, Cam and Mitchell build a princess castle for Lily.
"She's not my girlfriend. She's just coming over to discuss the life cycle of silkworms." - Manny, whose burgundy dinner jacket did not go over well with Kelly

"I just don't want him to make a mistake that will affect him for the rest of my life... his life!" -Gloria, who wants to avoid the number one leading cause of death for Colombian women, their sons getting married

"If an accident does happen, I hope he kills me, because I don't think I would be a very inspiring disabled person." - Cameron, who is tired of home improvement projects being near-death experiences

"That was my Vietnam. And I was in Vietnam." - Jay, recalling building a bookshelf with Mitchell

The bird flying into the princess castle with Mitchell in it, a wonderfully hilarious callback to last season's Godfather-inspired battle royale.

"What's the plan, Phil?!" - Claire, as Phil jumps on the hood of the car to prevent it from going off a cliff
Cougar Town
Season 2, Episode 1: "All Mixed Up"
When Grayson wants to take some time away from his "graysonship" with Jules to hang out with the guys, Jules consults her new therapist Glenn (guest star Jennifer Aniston). Meanwhile, Laurie tries to get Travis to stay awake in preparation for college while Andy tries to catch the perpetrator who is drawing mustaches on Jules' picture (mustache on a lady - always funny, as Bobby would say).

"For example, a killer whale gives out golden tickets to see who gets his candy company" "Free Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!" - Grayson and Laurie playing Movie Mashup, the game I wish I had come up with.

"I'm getting so far ahead of myself that I've actually named the Asian baby we're going to adopt… Arthur."  - Jules, who wakes up peppy and doesn't like Glenn's stern voice

"I just spent the last hour getting my body twisted into all sorts of positions by a sweaty Indian man." Barb, who doesn't know what yoga class Ellie and Jules are talking about

"Calm. Center. 5, 4, 3, my anger is a puddle, I simply step out." - Glenn, whose dog Gabriel had a First Communion (it was his choice, not hers)

"Big whoop… 'I have to go a bar tomorrow'." - Laurie, who doesn't miss people (she dismisses them), confusing Smith Frank's Bar Exam with an actual bar while trying to pull an all-nighter with Travis, who only goes to sleep at 9:30 on school nights
What about you, fellow judgers? What were your favorite lines and moments from last night?
