Okay, dearest readers. In a final Glee buildup post, I really want to find something for this week's Trailer Tuesday full of the same spectacular wit, pizzaz and pageantry that the upcoming sophomore season at McKinley High promises to offer. And instead of looking forward (the only option would've been the already used Burlesque), I'm taking a look back at a hilariously wonderful movie from Down Under.
Razzle Dazzle: A Journey Into Dance is a mockumentary-style film that explores the world of competitive dance troupes, namely the rivlary between the studios of the oddball visionary Mr. Jonathan and the uptight perfectionist Miss Elizabeth.
Amongst stage moms, the bribing of judges, Afghan chadris, foster care child napping and bitter defeat, Razzle Dazzle maintains a sense of playfulness and fun. I know - how does that list and fun go together? Well take a look at the trailer and see just part of what makes this movie so special (and one of the most successful Australian films of the past several years).
Sidenote: I had the pleasure of meeting director Darren Ashton back in 2007 and got some great insight into the making of the movie. For instance, the children were only told what their specific character had to do or say, everything else came as a surprise so their reactions were 100% genuine. Fantastic.
