Advice from Cartoon Princesses

With last year's Princess and the Frog and this year's Tangled (currently in theaters), Disney is doing its best to bring the princess back to pop culture.

And while many of us look back fondly at characters like Cinderella and Jasmine, perhaps we should take a closer look at the messages being sent by Disney heroines. That's exactly what Chicago-based improv troupe The Second City, home of Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert and Steve Carrell, is doing with its online video series, "Advice from a Cartoon Princess."

The most recent video, starring Danielle Uhlarik as original Disney princess Snow White, was released last week. Take a look at what gems of wisdom Miss White has for young girls everywhere and then watch the videos for Beauty and the Beast's Belle and The Little Mermaid's Ariel.

Snow White:

"If you need to clean a kitchen, invite in rabid animals to help you. They can do things like lick plates!"

Ariel:

"I'm an ordinary human instead of being a beautiful princess mermaid. And I love that."

Belle:

"I don't like the term 'bestiality.' Sounds blech. I preferm the term 'interspecialty' because it sounds like 'special'!"

These videos reminded me of artist Jeffrey Thomas and his Twisted Princess collection. No one would dare mess with these maidens...
