Family Jules: Barb Trap!

Images courtesy of ABC

After last week's programming confusion, the "Jules" of Family Jules triumphantly returned last night!

Both shows were new, with Modern Family delivering more awkward than funny and Cougar Town making me yearn for a delicious wine bar (even if it's run by nasty Wayne).

So before I accidentally send an email, let's take a look at the best moments from each episode...

Modern Family
Season 2, Episode 13: "Caught in the Act"
The kids walk in on Claire and Phil intimately celebrating their anniversary and Gloria delays her trip with Jay to Vegas after accidentally sending a nasty bake sale email to Claire. Meanwhile, Cam and Mitchell try to secure reservations at the new hip restaurant by scheduling a play date for Lily with the owner's son.
"It sended! Please come back..." - Gloria,  who cannot work on the bake sale because Claire's a bossy control freak who looks down on her cupcakes (even though Claire's lemon squares are dry).

"Forgive me for thinking your zesty performance deserves some praise." - Phil, who is used to the kids looking at him and Claire with judgment and disgust.

"I don't know what they were doing, but it looked like Dad was winning." - Luke, who also noted that Claire screamed a lot.

"ANJELICA HUSTON!" - Mitchell, who is concerned that the juice-stained carpet costs $50,000, not which celebrity also owns it.

"Gross! You're ruining sex for me. And boots." - Claire, disturbed by Jay's thigh fetish.
(Starting to Own It) Cougar Town
Season 2, Episode 12: "A Thing About You"
Laurie overstays her welcome while spending the weekend with Jules, Ellie struggles with her new friendship with the mean sommelier at the wine shop and Bobby tries to maintain his fatherly role in Travis' life.
"No, you get back in your spaceship!" - Jules, who doesn't understand why Grayson doesn't like 'Grules' better than 'Jason' for their couple name.

"Strolling along rivers in Paris? You must've been like, 'Help! I'm trapped in a cliche!'" - Travis, whose idea of a great date is watching Season 1 of Community and an Estevez Festivez (great callback to the season premiere).

"The elliptical has been my bitch recently!" - Laurie, who doesn't know the meaning of 'audacity.'

"I know you fancy yourself the Queen of Mean around these parts, but Wayne Givens is not scared of some unemployed suburban house frau who dresses like Diane Keaton's much much much much much much much much much much much much much older sister." - Wayne, who is eventually thrilled to do whatever Ellie wants.

"I know you're in there, nerd!" - Ellie, who really doesn't like vegans.
What did you think of last night's episodes? Were you a bit let down by Modern Family? Did 'Grules' give you amazing Mean Girls flashbacks? Do you think Gloria makes delicious cupcakes? And, speaking of food, how amazing did Grayson's three-cheese nachos sound?!
