How I Met Your Mother Renewed Through Season 8

It's the saga that's been going on for six years. The question that has plagued our generation, the epic conclusion we know is imminent yet seems so unclear: Who is Theodore Evelyn Mosby going to marry?

Well, guess what. You're going to have to wait a little bit longer.

On Friday, CBS announced it had officially renewed How I Met Your Mother for an additional two seasons, bringing the show to at least Season 8.

And while NPH is ecstatic to have some job security (especially with those newborn twins of his), what does this mean for us?

For starters, I don't think we should assume that it will take until the end of Season 8 for Teddy Westside to meet The Mother. Not only do they need to meet, but they also need to fall in love (which, fine, takes about 10 seconds for Ted), date, get engaged, etc. I think the show is strong enough to continue on past the initial "That's her!" moment.

We learned at the end of last season that she is the former roommate of Rachel Bilson's character Cindy and that he will finally meet her at the wedding we keep seeing shots of—I'll assume for my mental well-being that will happen by the end of this current season (Season 6). That gives us Season 7 for them to date and get engaged and Season 8 to wrap it up.

Naturally, this is all assuming that HIMYM hasn't completely jumped the shark and is destined to drag us along begging for mercy. Let's not forget this is the same show that gave us a pretty bleak Season 5, complete with an entire episode about a monkey in the zoo scaring Marshall and a way-too-short relationship between Barney and Robin. And let's be honest, this whole "Is she The Mother?" nonsense every time Ted dates a girl is starting to get a bit old (See: Stella, Zoey). Ugh.

Despite all that, I'm choosing to have faith in the writers that gave us "Slap Bet," "The Pineapple Incident," "The Possimpible," and most recently "Bad News" which brought us the tragic passing of Marshall's dad and some pretty fantastic acting from Jason Segel. Season 6 has been significantly better than its predecessor, and we can only hope that continues through the next two seasons.

What do you think? Are you ready for the show to be over? Do you think we'll have to wait two more seasons to meet The Mother?

And finally.... this:

You're welcome.
