Sick Day Movie Reviews: The Help
Sick days are not fun. And we've all had enough of them to know that, so I won't go into any further detail. The only upside to a sick day? Some time to catch up on the movies and TV shows we've been too busy to watch otherwise. Throughout the day, I'll be posting some mini-reviews of the things I'm catching up on.
First up was The Change-Up, which ended up being quite the disappointment. In need of some quality cinema, The Help came in to save the day.
I've already written a bit about my thoughts on the 1960s Jim Crow era film, but wanted to use this post as a reminder to see this movie if you haven't already. Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Emma Stone and Jessica Chastain give remarkable performances in a riveting story of injustice, bravery and love.
After I saw The Help for the first time this summer, it landed right at the top of my best movies of 2011. After my second viewing today, it is most certainly keeping that spot. It's out on DVD and BluRay, so do yourself a favor and rent it.
