Trailer Tuesdays: Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin in HBO's 'Game Change'

After much debate, I've decided to post this—though, to be very clear, I have no interest in discussing the politics of this whole thing. This has way more to do with Julianne Moore than anything else. So there's that.

HBO's Game Change, based on the book of the same title, tells the story of the 2008 US presidential election and, more specifically, Republican vice president nominee Sarah Palin. There was a lot of buzz surrounding the casting of Julianne Moore as Palin, and she absolutely knocks it out of the park in the trailer below.

Project Runway All Stars, Episode 4: Tasteless

I'd like to begin with a little story. A trip down Memory Lane, if you will...

Last year, Bravo did an all-star season of Top Chef featuring some of the best cheftestants in the show's history: Richard Blais, Carla Hall, Casey Thompson, etc. It was wonderful getting to see our favorite chefs back in the kitchen again, running around Whole Foods like crazy people, stressing about Restaurant Wars and even canoodling with guest stars like Elmo and Cookie Monster. Unfortunately, toward the end of the season it became a little tiring. Why? Because the production became so obsessed with making the challenges insanely difficult and non-conducive to creating delicious food that all of the results ended up being fairly haphazard and the chefs kept getting more disappointed with their product (for a few weeks there was a brief Blais Suicide Watch around my apartment). Top Chef All-Stars was at its absolute best when they gave the chefs the opportunity (and time) to produce top notch work. After all, these were all stars—ultimately, their top-notch work is entertainment in itself.

Now, does that anecdote and its moral remind you of anything? Me, too. So before I dry heave at the thought of chocolate gelato with cayenne pepper, let's take a look at last night's episode of Project Runway All Stars...

Where to See the 2012 Oscar Nominees

Now that the Academy Award nominees have been announced, the real fun of Oscar season can begin: checking off all the movies on the list in an attempt to see as many of the nominees as possible!

Viewing all of the nominees can often be a grueling task, as many of the films are small independent features, foreign films or movies that are not in wide release. And don't even get me started on the short films. The best bet with those is to either scour YouTube or make a wild guess in your predictions.

As for the rest of the nominees, I have compiled a cheat sheet that breaks them all down: what is in theaters, what is on DVD and which films you are just going to have to go without seeing. I've even tracked down the nominees on Netflix, Netflix Instant and Redbox. Look at the good I do.

So grab your popcorn, make sure you find a comfy seat, and take a look at where you can view this year's Oscar nominated films...

Happy Family Jules: Reruns Make Me Sad

During any normal week, now is about the time when I'd post the weekly Happy Family Jules post reviewing the latest episodes of Modern Family, Happy Endings and—once it's finally back from its hiatus—Cougar Town and recounting the funny lines and moments from each. However, this week is no normal week. If you tried to tune in last night, I'm guessing you were rolling your eyes at the sight of another round of reruns.

Le sigh.

2012 Academy Awards: And the Nominees Are...

One of the many perks of living on the East Coast is not having to wake up at 5:30am to watch the live webcast of the Academy Award nomination announcements. So if you were fast asleep or otherwise disposed as previous Best Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence and Academy President Tom Sherak announced this year's Oscar nominees, fear not! The nominees in the 10 "big" categories are below, and I'll be back later with some brief thoughts on the entire list.

Project Runway All Stars, Episode 3: This Little Piggy Liked Fashion

I love The Muppets. I grew up watching the movies and shows, singing the songs and buying the merchandise. So I can only assume that this week's challenge on Project Runway All Stars was tailor-made to appeal to people just like me. And yet... here I am scratching my head wondering what the heck that was all about.

So before anyone starts calling this the BEST challenge in the HISTORY of Project Runway—*cough* Joanna *cough*—let's take a look at exactly what went wrong...

'Archer' Season 3 Premieres Tonight

After a brief (and fantastic) three-episode arc in the fall, tonight marks the complete return of Sterling, Mallory, Lana, Cyril, Cheryl, Ray and, of course, Pam to FX. Season 3 of Archer promises to be bigger and bolder than the ones that came before it, with the ISIS team hunting down the forces of evil in the jungles, on trains and... in space!

So make sure to set your DVR after you watch the sneak peek clip after the jump...

Happy Family Jules: Oh F***!

Note to readers: if my wedding is anything like the wedding pictured above, please give me a huge round of applause. Light-up bow ties? WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?!

Anyway, I digress. In addition to luminescent bridesmaids, this week's Modern Family and Happy Endings featured swearing toddlers, doggy-paddling pooches, v-neck inter-vee-ntions and more. So before I unintentionally go viral, let's take a look at last night's episodes...

ABC Announces the Return of 'Cougar Town'

The most recent new episode of Cougar Town aired on May 25, 2011. Yup... the Season 2 finale was 237 days ago, and no amount of red wine, Penny Can or DVD watching can make up for the fact that ABC has been infuriatingly ambiguous on their plans for the return of the beloved show.

First, the network planned to have Season 3 premiere in November after Dancing With the Stars concluded its fall run. Then November came and went and a midseason premiere seemed likely, until the midseason schedule was released without so much as a footnote about the Cul-De-Sac Crew and news later broke that the episode order for the season was reduced from 22 episodes to 15. Wah wah.

Since then, show creators Kevin Biegel and Bill Lawrence have taken matters into their own hands, launching a nationwide series of Cougar Town viewing parties at which fans meet members of the cast and crew, play Penny Can and view a handful of Season 3 episodes. The whole point? Keep Cougar Town in people's minds, reward the fans and promote the show that ABC refuses to pay attention to.

Thankfully, it seems that hard work has finally paid off. Keep reading after the jump for the long-awaited premiere date for Season 3 of Cougar Town...

ConDRAGulations: 2012 Golden Globes

With all of the anticipation of an unwieldy, provocative and scandalous ceremony at the hands of Ricky Gervais, last night's 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards carried on fairly smoothly and uneventfully. In fact, I'd say I enjoyed this year's Globes far more than last year's Oscars. When you are the Kim Kardashian to the Oscar's Kate Middleton, as Gervais put it last night, that's quite the compliment.

The common understanding is that the Golden Globes have little to no bearing on the outcome of the Oscars, but there were still a lot of interesting things to note that could have some sort of effect on the rest of this awards season.

So before I make a joke about Jodie Foster's beaver, let's review some of the most noteworthy moments from last night's Golden Globes and then offer a hearty Condragulations to all of the winners...

Project Runway All Stars, E2: Pumped-Up Prom Dresses

The good news about having the All Star season? You immediately know all of the designers and you don't have to waste time getting to know people who will spend all of 17 minutes on television ever.

The bad news about having an All Star season? The weak are way too easy to spot in a sea of fierce competitors. Those designers you scratched your head about when the cast list was posted? They are not doing so well, are they?

Luckily, there's enough great design, bold personality and, yes, occasional dramatic flair-up to keep things delightfully interesting on Project Runway All Stars until the fat is completely trimmed. So before I insult the word "couture," let's take a look at last night's episode...

2012 Golden Globes: Official Predictions

I don't know if I should really call this list my "predictions" for the Golden Globes. It's more like my wild guesses and occasional support for my favorite in the category despite what anyone else says. In any case, the Golden Globes air Sunday night on NBC and are being hosted once again by controversial wiseguy Ricky Gervais, so the event is sure to be worth discussing come Monday. Might as well throw some predictions into the mix to make things interesting, right?

So take these with a grain of salt (unless I get them all right), but here are my predictions for the 2012 Golden Globes...

Best TV Moments of 2012: Knope's Campaign Off to an Icy Start

Here's the first in what will hopefully be a frequent feature here on the blog: Best TV Moments, for those remarkable scenes that make us laugh, cry or stand up off our couches and clap.

The first such notable scene comes from last night's Parks and Recreation episode, "The Comeback Kid," in which Leslie Knope relaunches her City Council campaign after last year's scandal saw her campaign team's departure and her poll numbers drop down to 1%. Aided by her new campaign staff—a.k.a. the Parks Department—Leslie planned an event to get her back in the public's good graces. Naturally, all did not go as planned, culminating in a side-splitting sequence of hilarity that is well-deserving of a Best TV Moment mention.

So, without further ado, here is "Leslie's Grand Entrance"...

Trailer Watch: Friends With Kids

Here's what you need to know before watching the trailer for Friends With Kids: Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, John Hamm, Maya Rudolph, Chris O'Dowd, Jennifer Westfeldt and Edward Burns.

Have I piqued your interest enough? Thought so. Take a look at the trailer after the jump...

Happy Family Jules: My Dad Got Bangs

Racist parrots, feng sui-loving birth mothers, an angry, vegetarian Ed Begley, Jr. and the five six keys of real estate. Yup, it was a pretty funny night in the land of ABC comedy.

So before my swimmer's ear gets agitated by a wet willy, I'll go ahead and review last night's episodes of Modern Family and Happy Endings...

Trailer Tuesdays: Pina

I'm not sure how this movie stayed off my radar for so long, but I am now determined to hunt it down after seeing the trailer play before The Artist.

Featuring the work of German choreographer Pina Bausch, Pina is a celebration of modern dance and a tribute to Bausch, who died during the production of the documentary. The film made the documentary shortlist for the Oscars, and is being released nationwide this month. And the coolest part? It's in 3D.

Check out the trailer after the jump...

'Portlandia' Season 2 Premieres Tonight

Tonight, Portlandia, one of my favorite new TV comedies, returns for a second season on IFC. The sketch comedy show features Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein paying homage to the quirky, crunchy city of Portland through an entire slate of hilarious characters.

Last month, I posted a clip from Season 2 in which Fred and Carrie become addicted to Battlestar Galactica. The BSG episode won't air until next week, although you can watch it online via the show's Facebook page. I'd never seen an episode of the show before viewing that clip, but soon after I breezed through Season 1 on Netflix and I am now sufficiently obsessed with it.

Before tonight's premiere, take a look at another Season 2 preview...

Project Runway All Stars, E1: Mopgate 2012

Well, how about that?

We are only one episode into Project Runway All Stars, and I haven't felt this good about the franchise since Seth Aaron's victory in Season 7, which was almost two full years ago. Right from the start there was a renewed energy and a sense that this season will be much different than the two that preceded it. As I said yesterday, Project Runway desperately needed this season to happen.

Naturally, everything wasn't perfect, but that's part of the fun, isn't it? So before someone steals my mop, let's breakdown last night's episode...

'Project Runway All Stars' Premieres Tonight

It's been a few months since Anya's shocking (but, let's be honest, not really) victory in the Project Runway Season 9 finale, so we've all had a little bit of time to calm down, recoup, and forget that the past two seasons have given us laughable champions after episodes more concerned with drama than talent. Can't you tell I've moved on...?

In any case, tonight is the premiere of Project Runway All Stars (Lifetime, 9/8c)! I'm willing to put aside all of my frustrations with this show because these are some of my favorite designers and I'm just happy to reunite with them.

After the jump, a promo for the season a few thoughts before tonight's premiere...

The Battlestar Galactica Video Game

Because I couldn't resist posting this...

The ever-clever folks at College Humor have done it again, this time with a faux video game based on Battlestar Galactica (which, you may recall, was one of my favorite TV discoveries of last year). It goes through the entire series, highlighting some of the more ridiculous plot points and details, especially when it comes to the insanity that was Gaius Baltar.

Take a look at the video after the jump.

WARNING: Major Spoilers Ahead! If you haven't watched Battlestar Galactica in its entirety, turn away now and go get the DVDs. You'll thank me later.

Happy Family Jules: Jamiroquai Before Labor Day

It's been four solid weeks since we've had a dose of Modern Family or Happy Endings, so thank goodness ABC rolled out new episodes of each as soon as 2012 began. Withdrawal crisis averted.

So before I take advice from a marketing major at a party school, let's talk about last night's episodes...

SYTYCD Loses Its Results Night... Now What?

Our beloved So You Think You Can Dance is ever-changing: the addition of All-Stars, a new stage and rotating celebrity judges have all been a part of the evolving landscape of the summer dance competition. And now, a new change is on the horizon as SYTYCD enters its ninth season: no results show.

A few theories on this odd development after the jump...

2012 Mid-Season TV Lineup

With the holidays over and 2012 off to a roaring start, it's time to shake off the hiatus cobwebs and get prepared for new episodes of our favorite (and least favorite) TV shows.

There's still no word on when Community or Cougar Town are coming back, but never fear... there is much to keep us entertained until they do! CBS has been airing new episodes since Monday, tonight marks the return of Modern Family and Happy Endings, and the midseason premieres of Archer and RuPaul's Drag Race are right around the corner.

So buckle in and get ready to triple-check your DVR. Here's your 2012 midseason TV lineup...

Trailer Tuesdays: Joyful Noise

I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with me, but I have found it physically impossibly for me to avoid Joyful Noise, the upcoming movie starring Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah. Those two divas are calling out to me like sirens to a doomed sailor, and although the trailer makes me cringe and wince, I'm pretty positive I'll be seeing it.

Can you resist Queens Dolly and Latifah? Check out the trailer for Joyful Noise after the jump...
