2012 Golden Globes: Official Predictions


I don't know if I should really call this list my "predictions" for the Golden Globes. It's more like my wild guesses and occasional support for my favorite in the category despite what anyone else says. In any case, the Golden Globes air Sunday night on NBC and are being hosted once again by controversial wiseguy Ricky Gervais, so the event is sure to be worth discussing come Monday. Might as well throw some predictions into the mix to make things interesting, right?

So take these with a grain of salt (unless I get them all right), but here are my predictions for the 2012 Golden Globes...

Best Motion Picture, Drama: The Descendants
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama: Viola Davis, The Help
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama: Brad Pitt, Moneyball
Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical: The Artist
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical: Michelle Williams, My Week with Marilyn
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical: Jean Dujardin, The Artist
Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture: Jessica Chastain, The Help
Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture: Christopher Plummer, Beginners
Best Animated Feature Film: The Adventures of Tintin
Best Foreign Language Film: A Separation (Iran)
Best Director - Motion Picture: Martin Scorsese, Hugo
Best Screenplay - Motion Picture: Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian, Moneyball

Best Actress in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical: Laura Dern, Enlightened
Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical: Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television: Downton Abbey
Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television: Kate Winslet, Mildred Pierce

I wouldn't go betting money on any of these predictions—the HFPA does what the HFPA wants to do—but now at least I have something to work against while waiting for Ricky Gervais' next offensive statement.
