Summer is chugging along—can you believe it's almost July?!—and being by the beach means lots of fun in the sun. Top on my list of upcoming summer-y purchases is a raft that will be perfect for floating (...and ponding grape) along the waves, but I have to admit that every time I think about setting sail in my future inflatable dinghy, I can't stop thinking about Portlandia's amazing "A-O River" sketch from earlier this year.
So as my way of wishing you all a wonderfully sunny weekend, here's Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen as Kath and Dave, getting ready to set sail...

Last night, the Broadcast Television Journalists Association hosted the Second Annual Critics' Choice Television Awards in Los Angeles. The whole affair seems like the BTJA's way of trying to get some good buzz surrounding their television favorites leading up to next month's Emmy nominations, but since they award shows and actors I like, I'm totally fine with it. Plus, if we are going to pay attention to the bat-shit crazy Golden Globes in January, we might as well focus on a night that actually awards some deserving and often-forgotten recipients.
You can view the full list of nominees here, then see the list of winners after the jump and join me in wishing them all a hearty Condragulations!

Let us sing praise to the So You Think You Can Dance overlords! For on this, the fourth and final week of auditions for Season 9, we were finally blessed with the gift for which we have been praying for: ballroom dancers! I hope you all sacrifice a nimble female contemporary dancer in thanks and celebration.
It should come as no surprise that the talent was incredibly impressive in Salt Lake City. After all, Utah has given us some of our favorite dancers over the last eight seasons: Allison Holker, Sabra Johnson, Chelsie Hightower, Gev Manoukian, Tadd Gadduang, etc etc etc. And in a state where high school ballroom competition is practically the same as football, the cha chas and rhumbas were off the hook.
As we head into Vegas Week, here are my favorite auditions from the SLC...

On its whirlwind tour across the nation searching for America's favorite dancer, So You Think You Can Dance left the glitz and glamour of last week's Hollywood round and headed to the Southern streets of Hotlanta, Georgia. And while LA was, predictably, jam-packed with contemporary dancers trying to make it big, Atlanta proved that variety is the spice of life. Sure, there were the typical lyrical ladies leaping across the stage, but the ATL also gave us a trio of popping geniuses, belly dancing, back woods hip hop and some (incredibly grating) karate kicks.
So without further ado, here are my favorite auditions of the week...

I know, I know. Two Best TV Moments posts in one day from the same week of television. But, c'mon, it's season finale time and there's not likely going to be much greatness coming out of summer TV (SYTYCD excluded, natch). And there's no denying that what happened last week on Game of Thrones was pure, amazing television. Not funny or heartwarming like some of the previous featured moments. Just balls to the wall, jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring television.
In the interesting of not spoiling it, I'll continue raving about the awesomeness of Blackwater after the jump. Just remember, spoilers ahead!
One of the great decisions the writers of Cougar Town made was to treat Jules and Grayson like adults when it came to their relationship. Not that the couple acts totally mature all the time—because what would be the fun in that?—but they saved us from the agony of all the break up/get back together/break up again nonsense that so many TV shows love to perpetuate. These are two forty-something divorcees who know what they want from life and from a partner, and being able to watch their relationship grow has been one of the show's strongest emotional developments.
It seems incredibly fitting, then, that one of the most important milestones in their relationship should make the grade to end up as a Best TV Moment of 2012: the wedding that ended the Season 3 finale that aired earlier this week. Take a look at the clip after the jump...
I've already admitted to being underwhelmed, and yet totally hooked, by the first trailer for Magic Mike, the upcoming Channing Tatum male stripper extravaganza. And while future trailers have proven to be less about custom furniture and more about the actual reasons anyone is going to see this movie, the latest poster for the film is just about perfect. Check it out after the jump...
